For the first time outside of the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, Gujarat 42 rare pictures of Mahatma Gandhi, taken by his grandnephew Kanu Gandhi, will be exhibited in Bengaluru.
The exhibition referred to as ‘Kanu’s Gandhi’ will be shown at the National Gallery of Modern Art from Oct 1, forward of Gandhi Jayanti.
It is displayed in association with Nazar Foundation, a non-profit trust for photographic arts, which published a book by the similar name last year.
The exhibition will also go to Goa, Mumbai, and Dhaka.
Kanu, the son of Mahatma Gandhi’s nephew Narandas and his wife Jamuna, lived at the Sabarmati Ashram since that time he was a kid, and gradually worked for the ashram, where he developed a love for photography.
The B&W photos of the Mahatma giving a massage to a Sanskrit scholar struggling from leprosy, or the emotional shot of Kasturba on his lap while in her last minutes at the Aga Khan Palace in Pune, draw out some rare moments of his life.
