Champa Mehra of Uttarakhand police chose duty over father’s illness, traveled 283 km on scooty

Dehradun: On one hand, the father is struggling with a serious illness, on the other hand, the Coronavirus crisis in the country. This policewoman of Uttarakhand Police has such a situation that she should look after the family or handle duty, but the policewoman chose the duty.

Due to the lockdown, when the buses or public transport was not available, the policewoman of Uttarakhand police traveled 283 km from Lalkuan Nanital to Dehradun on her scooty. The officer’s move has been appreciated by the police officers. Champa Mehra serves as a constable in the 112 control room Dehradun.

2016 batch Champa Mehra’s father is suffering from a serious illness of high blood sugar and kidney failure. Champa, who went to Nainital on leave on 23 March, was to return to Dehradun on 26 March. In the meantime, there was a lockdown in the country. The lock-down made it difficult for Champa to return to Dehradun. While Champa’s father was not feeling well, she was considering an extension of leave, but amid the Corona crisis in the country, Champa decided to return to duty.

Champa also assured the family members that duty was a big responsibility towards the society in this difficult time. When the buses were not running, Champa decided to come to Doon with his scooter. After the consent of the family, Champa left Nainital for Doon at seven in the morning of 25 March.
