A group of experts from the University of Singapore decided to make a beer that was just as delicious as the original recipe but also provides healthy microorganisms for our body. So Chan Mei Zhi Alcine, the research leader, and her team succeeded in creating a formula that brings a good dose of probiotics to the digestive system of those who drink it.
According to IFL, the researchers said that this beer could improve the intestinal health and even the immunity of the people. The key would be in the bacteria that they decided to introduce in the recipe:
“For this beer, we use an acidic milk-bacterium as a probiotic microorganism. It uses the sugar present in the barley to produce a lactic acid of bitter taste which results in a beer with strong and bitter flavors. The final product, which takes a month to be ready, has an alcohol content of 3.5%. “
According to the WebMD website, probiotics are bacteria that do the digestive system well. In that sense, they are “good bacteria” and are important for maintaining the balance between “good” and “bad” bacteria in our digestive system. When this balance is broken it is when problems arise in our stomach or intestines.
What are they for?
They are generally used to treat diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome, and diarrhea caused by infections or parasites. According to WebMD also serve to treat other types of conditions such as eczema or urinary or vaginal health problems in the case of women.
