In the Paralympic Games Devendra Jajria won gold medal in javelin throw competition. By throwing 62.15 meters Javelin, He broke his own record of 12 years. Devendra had lost an arm in childhood. But he did not give up and always do well in consecutive games.
Devendra belongs to the Churu district of Rajasthan. Devendra were hit by the electric wire when he was only 8-years-old. Due to the current his hand had been so scorched. After much efforts doctors failed to cure, then had to cut one of his arm.
Devendra did not stop despite losing hand. He set a milestone in 2002 FESPIC Games in South Korea, the 2004 Athens Paralympic, 2013 Athletic World Championships and also won gold in Rio Paralympic. In 2014 Asian Games, silver medal is also had on his name.
After creating a world record in 2004 Athens Paralympic, He received the Arjuna award.
Devendra is India’s first Paralympian who was awarded with Padma Shri by the President in 2012.
