In spite of facing difficulties in the earlier with its Free Basics program, which was axed in India in February following a court verdict, Facebook is willing on connecting people in India via cheap internet services.
Facebook has affirmed that it is testing the Express Wifi service with various ISPs (Internet service providers) in the country.
The Express Wifi service is aimed at providing data to users from local ISPs to access the Internet. “When people are able to purchase fast, affordable and reliable internet, they’re able to explore the range of information it has to offer including news, education, health, job postings, entertainment, and communication tools like Facebook,” explains the official page.
India is Facebook’s second-largest market (with the U.S. in first place).
This is the second time Facebook is attempting to connect people in India to the internet. – For Facebook, enhancing internet connectivity in India is an important target as it seeks to broaden and acquire the next one billion users. In fact, its numbers are already at 1.7 billion per month.
