The central government has made a big announcement on Wednesday for OBC reservation. The central cabinet has increased the ceiling of the creamy layer from Rs 6 lakh to 8 lakhs. After this announcement of the government, the other OBCs (OBCs) earning up to 8 lakh rupees annually will be in the creamy layer.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said in a press conference on Wednesday that a commission will be constituted for creating sub-categories in OBC. These committees will consider making sub-categories in OBC category. After the appointment of the Chairman of the Commission, the Commission will submit the report in 12 weeks.
What is the creamy layer in OBC reservation?
27% posts have been reserved for OBCs in government jobs and central higher education institutions. However, the annual income of the family should not exceed Rs 6 lakh to take advantage of reservation, which has been increased to 8 lakh rupees. Those who earn more than the fixed limit are treated as a creamy layer and are excluded from it. But due to this restriction, the post of OBC quota remains vacant due to lack of suitable candidates. There was a demand for enhancing the limit of creamy layer for a long time.
