A group of scientist from Indian national institute in Hyderabad, carried out a study on 14 fresh fruits regarding the antioxidant content of the fruits. The study revealed that the Guava has the higher antioxidant concentration of 500 mg/100g, while the apple had only 135mg/100g. It was also found that the Guavas are rich in fibre, protein, vitamins, minerals and doesn’t contain any cholesterol. Compared to 14 fresh fruits, guava was regarded as the ultimate super food.
Guava fruit helps in digestion, reduce blood pressure, liver function, acidity reflux, stomach ulcers, constipation, intestinal worms, nausea, gastric problems and diarrhea. There has been reports that it can help in preventing cancer, diabetes, scurvy.
The Indian consumption of guava are 100% home grown, while only 40% of apples are home grown. Because of this, Guavas are cheaper and fresher than Apples. Apples are mostly imported from China, U.S,etc. If we could eat more guavas than apple, it might not only help us, it will also help our farmers and Indian Economy.
