Hanuman Chalisa with English translation
श्रीगुरु चरण सरोज रज, निजमन मुकुरु सुधारि।
बरनउं रघुबर बिमल जसु, जो दायकु फल चारि।।
I clean my mind with the dust of the lotus feet of the guru,
And recite the pure glory of Lord Rama, the bestower of the four fruits of life.
बुद्धिहीन तनु जानिके, सुमिरौं पवनकुमार।
बल बुद्धि विद्या देहु मोहिं, हरहु कलेस विकार।।
Realizing myself to be devoid of intelligence, I meditate upon the son of the Wind,
Grant me strength, wisdom, and knowledge, and remove my ailments and impurities.
जय हनुमान ज्ञान गुन सागर।
जय कपीस तिहुँ लोक उजागर।।
Hail Hanuman, the ocean of knowledge and virtues!
Hail the king of monkeys, who illuminates the three worlds!
राम दूत अतुलित बलधामा।
अञ्जनि पुत्र पवनसुत नामा।।
You are the messenger of Lord Rama, possessing immeasurable strength,
Son of Anjana and Wind God, known as Hanuman.
महावीर विक्रम बजरंगी।
कुमति निवार सुमति के संगी।।
You are immensely valorous, with a body as strong as thunderbolts,
You are known as Bajrang Bali, the remover of evil tendencies and the companion of good sense.
कञ्चन बर्न बिराज सुबेसा।
कानन कुण्डल कुंचित केसा।।
Your body shines with a golden hue, your attire is splendid,
You wear earrings and your hair is curly.
हाथ वज्र औ ध्वजा बिराजै।
कांधे मूँज जनेऊ साजै।।
In your hands, you hold the thunderbolt and the victory flag,
You wear the sacred thread across your shoulder and the sacred thread made of Munja grass.
शंकर सुवन केसरीनंदन।
तेज प्रताप महा जग वन्दन।।
You are the son of Lord Shiva, born to Kesari and Anjana,
Your radiant glory is acclaimed throughout the universe.
विद्यावान गुणी अति चातुर।
राम काज करिबे को आतुर।।
You are learned, virtuous, and supremely wise,
Always eager to perform the tasks assigned by Lord Rama.
प्रभु चरित्र सुनिबे को रसिया।
राम लखन सीता मन बसिया।।
Listening to the stories of Lord Rama’s glories, one experiences divine delight,
Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita reside in your heart.
सूक्ष्म रूप धरि सियहिं दिखावा।
विकट रूप धरि लंक जरावा।।
You assumed a tiny form and appeared to Sita,
In your formidable form, you burnt Lanka to ashes.
भीम रूप धरि असुर संहारे।
रामचंद्र के काज सँवारे।।
You took a gigantic form and defeated the demons,
You carried out Lord Rama’s tasks successfully.
लाय सजीवन लखन जियाये।
श्रीरघुबीर हरषि उर लाये।।
You brought the life-restoring herb for Lakshmana,
Bringing immense joy to Lord Rama.
रघुपति कीन्ही बहुत बड़ाई।
तुम मम प्रिय भरत सम भाई।।
You were greatly praised by Lord Rama Himself,
And you are as dear to me as Lord Bharata, His brother.
सहस बदन तुम्हरो यश गावैं।
अस कहि श्रीपति कंठ लगावैं।।
With thousands of bodies, you sing your own glories,
Saying this, you embraced the Lord’s neck.
सनकादिक ब्रह्मादि मुनीसा।
नारद सारद सहित अहीसा।।
Sage Sanaka, the divine sages, Lord Brahma, and others,
Narada, Saraswati, and the serpent deities – all hail you.
जम कुबेर दिगपाल जहां ते।
कबि कोबिद कहिं सकें कहां ते।।
The God of Death, Kubera, and the guardians of the directions,
Even poets and scholars cannot fully describe your glory.
तुम उपकार सुग्रीवहिं कीन्हा।
राम मिलाय राज पद दीन्हा।।
You rendered a great service to Sugriva,
Uniting him with Lord Rama and bestowing upon him the kingdom.
तुम्हरो मन्त्र बिभीषन माना।
लंकेस्वर भए सब जग जाना।।
Ravana, the king of Lanka, surrendered to your divine power,
By your blessings, he became renowned throughout the world.
युग सहस्त्र योजन पर भानु।
लील्यो ताहि मधुर फल जानू।।
You flew towards the sun, situated thousands of miles away,
Mistaking it for a sweet fruit.
प्रभु मुद्रिका मेलि मुख माहीं।
जलधि लांघि गये अचरज नाहीं।।
You held the Lord’s signet ring in your mouth,
And leaped across the ocean; this wondrous feat is no surprise.
दुर्गम काज जगत के जेते।
सुगम अनुग्रह तुम्हरे तेते।।
Impossible tasks become easy under your watch,
Your blessings make even the difficult achievable.
राम दुआरे तुम रखवारे।
होत न आज्ञा बिनु पैसारे।।
You stand guard at the door of Lord Rama,
No one can enter without your permission.
सब सुख लहै तुम्हारी सरना।
तुम रक्षक काहू को डरना।।
Taking refuge in you brings all happiness,
Under your protection, there is no fear of anyone.
आपन तेज सम्हारो आपै।
तीनों लोक हांक तें कापै।।
You possess the power to suppress your own radiance,
You can shrink yourself or expand to encompass the three worlds.
भूत पिसाच निकट नहिं आवै।
महाबीर जब नाम सुनावै।।
Evil spirits and demons cannot approach you,
When the great hero’s name, Mahavira, is chanted.
नासै रोग हरै सब पीरा।
जपत निरंतर हनुमत बीरा।।
All diseases and pain are eradicated,
By constantly chanting the name of Hanuman, the brave.
संकट कटै मिटै सब पीरा।
जो सुमिरै हनुमत बलबीरा।।
All troubles and afflictions are dispelled,
By remembering the mighty Hanuman, the embodiment of strength.
जै जै जै हनुमान गोसाईं।
कृपा करहु गुरुदेव की नाईं।।
Hail, Hail, Hail Hanuman, the Lord of monkeys!
Bestow your grace, O Guru Dev!
जो सत बार पाठ कर कोई।
छूटहि बंदि महा सुख होई।।
One who recites this Chalisa a hundred times,
Achieves great happiness and liberation from bondage.
जो यह पढ़ै हनुमान चालीसा।
होय सिद्धि साखी गौरीसा।।
One who reads the Hanuman Chalisa,
Gains accomplishment and the blessings of Mother Gauri.
तुलसीदास सदा हरि चेरा।
कीजै नाथ हृदय महँ डेरा।।
Tulsidas, the eternal devotee of Lord Hari,
Resides in the heart of the Lord, O Master.
दोहा
पवनतनय संकट हरण, मंगल मूरति रूप।
राम लखन सीता सहित, हृदय बसहु सुर भूप।।
O Son of the Wind, dispeller of sorrows, embodiment of auspiciousness,
May you reside in my heart along with Lord Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita, O King of Gods.
