The Malayali film ‘S Durga’, which has been in disputes due to its title, has been ordered by the Kerala High Court to screen in the Indian International Film Festival in Goa. The court said that the certified copy of the film can be screened in the 48th edition of the International Film Festival of India.
At the same time, any jury members of Kerala Film Industry and Indian Panorama have welcomed the High Court’s decision. While praising this decision of the High Court, director of the film Sanal Kumar Shashidharan said that this order is a victory for cinema and democracy. A few days ago, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting removed the film from the list of films to be shown at the festival.
This film was not allowed to be shown on 12th and 18th of October, 2017 at the Mumbai Film Festival. After which the director Sanal Kumar Shashidharan filed the plea in the court. Due to the fact that the name of the movie was first being ‘Sexy Durga’, the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting wrote a letter to the film festival director Anupama Chopra on September 19. It was said that Durga is a Goddess of Hindus and if the film is allowed to be shown in the film festival it will hurt the religious sentiments of the people.
