On Friday afternoon, Terror struck Assam today in a busy market at Kokrjhar, When 5 alleged NDFB militants wearing army fatigues arrived and began indiscriminate fire, killing 14 people on the spot, while two other severely injured.
One of the attackers was killed in retaliatory action by security forces, who were patrolling the area rushed in and retaliated, Sahay said. It is suspected that 3 or 4 militants could possibly be hiding and operations are on to nab them, he said.
AK-56 and 47 series rifles together with grenades were recovered from the spot.
The dead involved a woman who was not yet been identified while six others have been identified as Mazhar Ali, Salam Ali, Danda Basumatary, Moniram Basumatary, Parmeswar Basumatary and Tapan Chakraborty.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly condemned the attack and said the Home Ministry is in touch with the Assam government.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal denounced the attack and said the militants will be treated with “very sternly”.
