In Uttar Pradesh’s Hamirpur district, a mother-in-law was over excited after her daughter-in-law gave birth to a girl child.This is something unusual as it is mostly seen in cases when a boy is born. Prema Devi is a retired health department inspector. She believes that daughters are better than having sons.
Prema Devi’s son is a government official at Hamirpur district headquarters and her daughter-in-law Khushbu, on the other hand, is a housewife.
According to an Indian Samwad report, Khushbu gave birth to a baby girl and Prema Devi hosted a small party to celebrate her granddaughter’s birth.
In the party itself, Prema Devi announced that on the festival of Diwali, she will gift a brand new Honda City to her daughter-in-law.
Prema Devi said, “the practice of female infanticide can only end when daughters-in-law are treated as daughters. After all, they’re somebody else’s daughters as well”.
“If daughters-in-law are loved the way daughters are loved, they bring happiness to home.”
Tears ran down Khushbu’s face after receiving such an amazing gift from her mother in law. Khushbu says that she is extremely blessed to have Prema Devi as her mother-in-law. Even she is of the view that daughters-in-law should treat their mothers-in-law like their own mothers.
A salute to Prema Devi for having an approach that is against gender discrimination. She has created history by giving preference to a girl child over a boy.a thought process like her’s has the power to change the society for good.
