Passengers can soon tune into favorite FM radio stations when traveling on Indian Rail, Railways plan to add the service to about 1000 Mail and Express trains, as well as premier services.
According to the plan, studios will be set up at Railway Board and all zonal headquarters to operationalise Rail Radio.
Travelers will also be updated on train-related details on an hourly basis. Besides humor, astrology and other trivia, the history of Indian Railway and its significant activities will also be part of the Rail Radio service.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu had in his 2016-17 budget speech offered to invite FM radio stations for offering train-borne entertainment via public address systems on trains. At present, only Rajdhani, Duronto and Shatabdi trains are geared up with PA system.
