A JNU student, identified by police as J R Philemon Chiru, was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside room No. 171 of Brahmaputra Hostel late Tuesday night. He was pursuing his Ph.D. in West Asian Studies, The Ph.D. student was reportedly missing since the past three days.
“When a foul smell started emanating from the room, the student in the neighboring room called other students and security and forcefully opened the door. He was found dead in the room,” a senior police officer said.
The body has been taken to AIIMS for post-mortem examination, police said.
No suicide note
While no suicide note has been found, the DCP said the most likely lead to of death was the overdose of alcohol.
“The deceased was a heavy drinker. That appears to have caused his death. Since his hostel room was found locked from inside, there does not seem to be any foul play,” said Mr. Singh. No external injury marks were found on the victim’s body.
