Over 100 patients and their attendants were seriously injured due to fire. Some individuals were found to have sustained burn injuries.
The fire is believed to have began from the dialysis ward of the SUM Hospital, situated on the 1st floor, probably because of an electric short circuit, about 7.30 in the evening hours. From there it spread to the Intensive Care Unit and the medicine wards.
All the patients have been cleared out and shifted to other hospitals – which includes the Capital Hospital and AMRI, Bhubaneswar, they said.
The Odisha government has set up a helpline number: 9439991226.
